Utility companies own and maintain the electric wires, poles and related infrastructure to move, deliver and meter electricity from power generation companies, all the way to its final distribution to homes and businesses.
Oncor utility transmission and delivery (TDU) charges are regulated by the Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT). Oncor TDU charges are comprised of multiple rates regulated by the PUCT. TDU charges pay for the maintenance and upgrades of the electric infrastructure including the meters that service your home. The TDU charges are passed through to the customer by the REPs in the monthly electric bill and are the same regardless of who supplies the electricity.
All Retail Electricity Providers (REPs) in a certain utility area use the same electric wires to deliver electricity to your home and they pay a TDU charge to Utility companies for the use of their infrastructure. The TDU charges are passed over to you by your REP in your monthly bill. In your electricity bills you might see TDU fees as a separate charge or they can be bundled depending on the type of electricity plan you choose.
The residential TDU rates are updated on March 1st and September 1st of each year with the approval of the PUCT. Here is a summary of the current and historical Oncor TDU charges
Effective Date | Monthly
Base Charge |
Charge per electricity used $/kWh |
March 2020 | $3.42 | $.035448 |
September 2019 | $3.42 | $.038447 |

September 2018 | $3.49 | $.038271 |
